District 88 amends 2021-22 school calendar: Nov. 22 to be a regular, full day of school

During its Oct. 4 meeting, the District 88 Board of Education approved an amendment to the 2021-22 school calendar.

Based on Illinois School Code, each school day must provide 300 minutes of instruction for students. District 88 has a five-year waiver with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to deviate from this requirement to implement late-start Mondays, which provide staff with professional development time from 7:45 to 9 a.m. each Monday. In the past, this has included the Monday before Thanksgiving Break. This year, however, the Monday before Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 22) was flagged by the ISBE as not meeting the required amount of hours.

As a result, the Board approved the administration’s recommendation to make Nov. 22 a regular, full day of school (rather than a late-start Monday). PLEASE NOTE: The regular bell schedule (7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.) will be implemented on Nov. 22.
