Willowbrook senior Victoria Palma has been named to the 2019 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Honorable Mention All-State Academic Team.

According to the IHSA website, “Every IHSA-member school was invited to nominate one female student and one male student to be a part of the prestigious team. Nominees needed to possess a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale after their seventh semester, have participated in at least two IHSA-sponsored activities during each of the last two years of high school and demonstrated outstanding citizenship.”

The nominations were evaluated by a committee made up of IHSA principals, athletic directors and activities directors, and hundreds of nominations for the 2018-19 team were received. For more information, go to https://tinyurl.com/y6k35r4w.

Palma has committed to join the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Women’s Cross-Country Team and Women’s Track & Field Team, where she will compete in mid-distance or distance events. She is a four-year member of the Willowbrook Girls Cross-Country Team and Girls Track Team and said highlights of her high school career include:

  • Being the first member of the Willowbrook Girls Cross-Country Team to qualify for the IHSA Girls Cross-Country State Meet in 12 years
  • Qualifying twice for the IHSA Girls Cross-Country State Meet
  • Holding the 3-mile school record (17:50)
  • Holding the 1600-meter school record (5:08)
  • Winning the 1600-meter and the 3200-meter events at Conference (indoor/outdoor)
