Willowbrook students earn 2nd place at College of DuPage Engineering Olympics

On April 24, Willowbrook Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher Mike Chabalowski took 15 students who are enrolled in Project Lead The Way courses at Willowbrook to College of DuPage to participate in the 2nd annual Engineering Olympics.

Forty-five teams from surrounding schools participated in this hands-on engineering competition that focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). A team of five Willowbrook students finished in 2nd place in the design competition, during which students participated in several challenges that tested various areas of engineering. Those students are seniors Austin DeBok, Demonta Hart, John Halloran, Kevin Rezek and Cristian Batiz.

The Engineering Olympics event, hosted by the College of DuPage Engineering Club, was designed to encourage high school students to pursue education and careers in the field of engineering. The tasks given to the students during the competition were developed to encourage creativity and practical problem solving.
