On Nov. 9, 41 Addison Trail junior and senior students traveled to Western Illinois University (WIU) with Addison Trail physical education teacher Mayra Carrera, social studies teacher Mario Fernandez and Dean Keith Marston as part of the school’s college visit opportunities.
Students who participated are part of Addison Trail’s Blazers Edge program, which is available by invitation to pupils who meet certain criteria such as being the first in their family to attend college. Through that program, students hear guest speakers, attend college visits, receive assistance with college applications/requesting financial aid and more. The goal is to encourage them to explore four-year post-secondary institutions.
The group that went to WIU was given a tour of the campus, ate lunch at the university and received information about the admissions process and financial aid.
