Cast and crew of Willowbrook spring play, ‘The Rise and Fall of Little Voice,’ place at State

The cast and crew of Willowbrook's spring play, “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice,” competed in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Drama & Group Interpretation State Competition, which took place on March 24 and 25 in Springfield.

The group earned 3rd place overall, and several students earned individual honors as well.

About “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice"
The show takes place in the early 1990s in Northern England and tells the story of Little Voice (played by junior Julia Cicero), a shy girl who’s struggling to discover her confidence and finds comfort in listening to her late father’s old record collection alone in her room. It’s there where she practices and perfects impersonating famous singers such as Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. When her overbearing mother, Mari (played by junior Genevieve Corkery), begins dating small-time talent agent Ray Say (played by senior Anthony Clampit), he tries to use Little Voice to make it to the “big time.” But Little Voice just wants to share a quiet, simple life with someone who loves her. A character who helps Little Voice on her journey is Billy (played by junior John DeAngelo), an electrician who works on lighting during her performances, and a burgeoning romance develops between the two. The dramatic comedy follows the characters as they each strive to get what they want.

On March 23, Willowbrook hosted a State send-off celebration for the 75 students who competed at State. The group finished in 2nd place at the Reavis High School Sectional on March 18. Along with earning a bid to State as a group, the following students also received individual awards:
