Willowbrook students compete in Chili Cook-Off

On March 9, students in Willowbrook Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher Amy Nowak’s Culinary Arts II class competed in a Chili Cook-Off.

Participants had to research a recipe to make as part of the course’s sauce, soup and starch unit. Entries were evaluated by judges, who rated the chili on presentation, flavor, texture, consistency, blend of spices, aroma and color. The judges were Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department Chair Mary Barney, CTE teacher Stephanie Ennis, substitute teacher John Price, social studies/ESL teacher Ivan Jimenez, English teacher Daniel Fliegel, English teacher Scott Grobstein, English/literacy teacher Kathryn Wilson, social studies teacher Andrew Levin and math teacher Liz Zwart.

The winners of the competition are:

  • Period 5: Junior Daniel Lopez Egan and sophomores Cooper Ross, Nicholas Janopoulos, Samantha Shallcross and John Kwiatkowski
  • Period 6: Junior Angela Johnson, freshman Emily Fuentes, freshman Letisha Sepulveda and freshman Dorian Mahone

The winning teams will get to choose a meal to make and enjoy.
