Addison Trail senior Nino Conte was recently named as a recipient of a Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies.
According to the Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies website (http://tinyurl.com/ptoqyxb), applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. Finalists are selected and go through a rigorous interview process. The scholarship is awarded from the Evans Scholars Foundation, a charitable trust that provides full, four-year tuition and housing college scholarships to deserving caddies.
Conte has been a caddie at Medinah Country Club in Medinah for about five years. He said he used to play golf recreationally when he was younger, and he plans to play again in the future.
“What I’ve learned most through being a caddie is patience,” Conte said. “It’s a fun job, and I enjoy being on the golf course.”
Conte said he was thrilled when he learned he had received the scholarship to live in the Evans Scholarship House at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He’s looking to see whether he can transfer the scholarship to Indiana University Bloomington, and he plans to pursue a major in finance or accounting.
Conte said he’s humbled by this opportunity. He knows he couldn’t have achieved this level of success without the support of his family, friends and staff at Addison Trail.
“Addison Trail always pushed me to take rigorous courses, to challenge myself and to work hard,” Conte said. “I know that will help me be successful in the future.”
