On Dec. 3, students in Willowbrook’s automotive program had the opportunity to see and learn about a M998 HMMWV, a vehicle used by the military.
Staff Sgt. Mike Vertucci, a recruiter with the Illinois Army National Guard, and Sgt. 1st Class Josh Wittenauer, a team leader for recruiting command, spoke to automotive classes about the vehicle. Students were able to check the oil, transmission fluid and air filter on the HMMWV, as well as sit in the driver’s seat to look around inside.
“This was a great opportunity for students to practice the skills they’ve learned in class and apply them to real life,” said Chris Dunk, Willowbrook Career and Technical Education teacher. “They were able to experience firsthand what it’s like to work on a unique vehicle many don’t have the chance to see.”
