Addison Trail ‘springs’ to athletic success

It has been an incredible year for athletics at Addison Trail, and below are highlights from the spring season.

Girls Badminton
The Girls Badminton Team had a wonderful season and accomplished a goal that hasn’t been achieved in more than 15 years – competing at the State Tournament. Alyssa Lombardo – a three-year varsity member, All-Conference member and Captain – took fourth place at Sectionals, earning Lombardo her first trip to State. Izabela Kantor – a four-year varsity member, Academic All-Conference member and Captain – earned third place at Sectionals and advanced to her first trip to State. The Blazers ended up finishing in 38th place this year.

Boys Volleyball
The Boys Volleyball Team has earned 3rd place in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Tournament! This is the first time an Addison Trail volleyball team has qualified for the State tournament. The team also clinched another 30-win season. Leading the way was four-year standout Alex Dickmann. The senior had another outstanding season, putting an exclamation point on his record-breaking career. Dickmann picked up his third consecutive All-Conference and All-Area awards, the first player in Addison Trail’s history with that many selections. Dickmann has amassed 413 kills, breaking his own school record for kills in a season. He also broke his own school record for kills in a match, with 24 on his Senior Night (in a win over Willowbrook). Dickmann excels in the classroom as well. He will attend Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne in the fall on an academic and athletic scholarship.

Girls Track
For the second straight year, the Girls Track 4x100-meter Team qualified for the State Meet. Those ladies put forth immeasurable focus and determination during the last two weeks of practice and not only made it to State, but also broke the school record by almost half of a second. The team members are junior Lynnette Banuelos, senior Kimberly Schonder, senior Maria D’Ugo and sophomore Lauren Kroll. Kroll finished in second place in the 100-meter dash at Sectionals, breaking another school record and qualifying for State. This also was the second straight year Kroll qualified for State in the 200-meter dash by winning at Sectionals. She ranks in the top 20 of all girls in the State for both of those events.

Boys Track
Senior Jaavion Bradley recently represented the Blazers in the high jump at the Boys Track & Field State Meet. Bradley finished in second place at the Sectional meet and tied with several other jumpers for the third-best height of all qualifiers for the State competition. Bradley was an All-Conference selection last year, and this year became Conference Champion in the high jump. He also was an All-Conference selection in football and basketball this year and was named the 2014 West Suburban Conference Gold Division Most Valuable Player for football.

Go, Blazers!
