Willowbrook senior receives Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship

Willowbrook senior Henry Wallace was recently named as a Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship recipient.

According to the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship website (http://tinyurl.com/ptoqyxb), applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. Finalists are selected and go through a rigorous interview process. The scholarship is awarded from the Evans Scholars Foundation, a charitable trust that provides full, four-year tuition and housing college scholarships to deserving caddies.

Wallace has been a caddie at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn for three years, and he has been a member of the Willowbrook Boys Golf Team since his freshman year.

“Being on the golf course has helped me build character and improve my communication skills,” Wallace said. “Golf is physically and mentally challenging, and it has taught me patience.”

Wallace said he was thrilled when he learned he had received the scholarship. He will live in the Evans Scholarship House at Purdue University, where he plans to major in chemical engineering.

“I’m looking forward to being able to learn more,” Wallace said of attending the university. “I am excited to experience college life academically and socially.”

He will continue to play golf at the club level or recreationally, and he’s humbled by this opportunity. He knows he couldn’t have achieved this level of success without the support of his family, friends and staff at Willowbrook.

“Willowbrook has taught me the importance of hard work and dedication through academics, sports and life in general,” Wallace said. “I’ll always remember what I’ve learned here, and I know it will help me in the future.”
