Willowbrook Theatre invites you to step back in time with its winter play, “Little Women,” on Feb. 12, 13 and 14.
The play takes place during the American Civil War and tells the story of the March family, which consists of four sisters, their mother and their father, who is away serving in the war. The show focuses on the relationships between the family members as the sisters grow up.
“Even though it’s a period piece, it’s a timeless story,” said Willowbrook senior Erin Sulla, who plays the lead role of Josephine (Jo) March.
Sulla described Jo as “stubborn, passionate and unconventional” and said she looks forward to portraying the classic character.
Willowbrook senior Laura Smith, who plays the mother (Marmee), said she hopes the audience takes away the message of the show.
“The characters go through trials and tribulations, but they make it through together,” Smith said. “The main theme is everyone has hardships, but family is always there for you and is the most important thing.”
Performing the role of Beth is freshman Kathleen Cicero, who is a newcomer to the Willowbrook stage. Cicero has been involved in theatre outside of Willowbrook and is excited to perform at the school. She said she was impressed with past performances at Willowbrook, and that’s what inspired her to join theatre.
“It has been a wonderful experience,” Cicero said. “It’s nice to meet everyone and to feel so welcomed by the upperclassmen.”
Director Terri Woebel said she chose “Little Women” to present a different genre at the school and to share a beautiful story with the audience.
“I hope everyone falls in love with the sincerity of the story and the wonderful bond between the characters,” Woebel said.
