The 2014-15 athletic season is already shaping up to be another great year for Addison Trail!
Below are highlights from the fall season.
Boys Varsity Soccer
The Boys Soccer Team is currently 5-6-1. The team has had a lot of close games and has had a very challenging schedule. Members have played four top-15 teams in the state. The team is led by sophomore Tom Kania, who has 10 goals so far this season. Senior Dan Baeza leads the defense, and junior Damian Zielinski has had three goals and two assists. Goalie Jonah Moran, a senior, has had three shutouts this season and a 1.7 goals against average in net. The team won the Joe Novy Tournament this season and looks to finish in the middle of the Conference.
Girls Swimming
The Addison Trail/Willowbrook team is in the midst of another promising season. After winning the Conference the past two seasons, the team is currently 1-1 in Conference. The team has had a number of high finishes this season and is led by All-American senior Kelly McNamara, who is the returning IHSA State favorite in the 100-yard butterfly. The team also has IHSA State qualifiers Molly Hill (senior), Gabriella Morrone (senior), Meghan Koterba (junior) and Magdalena Czachor (senior).
Girls Varsity Volleyball
The team is currently 1-2 in Conference and is looking forward to playing the rest of its Conference matches. The young team members are making great progress and will push themselves to compete at a high level before playoffs.
Boys Varsity Golf
The team finished in 2nd place in Conference this year. The team’s Conference record was 6-1. Senior Nick Sammarco, senior Zachary Vaca, senior Joey Zucchero and junior Santino Bilotta earned spots on the All-Conference Team. At Regionals, the team did not advance, but Vaca, Sammarco and senior Thomas Stuhr advanced.
Boys Cross-Country
Boys Cross-Country has had tremendous success at the lower levels. The lower levels finished their Conference dual meets undefeated. The team had several top-10 individual finishers at the Fenton, Leyden and St. Charles invites. This season, the team had the largest number of freshmen it has ever had. The varsity team has seen numerous runners continue to set season and personal bests.
Girls Varsity Tennis
The team has won four of its last six matches. Those wins were over Willowbrook, Elmwood Park, Proviso East and Maine West. The first doubles team of sophomore Pamela Kobeszko and junior Gabriela Czerniawski recently took 3rd place at the Riverside Brookfield Invite. District 88 will host the Conference tournament on Oct. 10 and 11 at Addison Trail and Willowbrook.
Varsity Football
The Blazer Varsity Football Team is led by a great senior group. The team improved to a 6-0 overall record and a 3-0 Conference record with a 40-14 victory over Morton on Oct. 3. With their sixth straight win, the Blazers have qualified for the State playoffs and have tied the mark set in 2011 for the best start in Addison Trail’s history. The varsity team has three games remaining. With two more victories, the Blazers will claim their second Conference championship in four years.
