Since the beginning of second semester, about 25 Willowbrook students in teacher Andy Isaacson’s U.S. History class have been pen pals with third-graders in teacher Kristi Isaacson’s class at Ardmore Elementary School.
To create a keepsake for the third-graders, the Willowbrook students wrote their pen pal a personalized historical-fiction book that included the third-grader embedded within the story, as well as a positive message at the end.
On June 4, the students read the books together at Willowbrook. But their bond goes much deeper than those stories, Andy said.
“This is a fantastic connection all the way around, as it goes beyond merely reading a book to a class,” he said. “It is a dimensional connection and a clear example of going beyond the rubric.”
Andy presented the students with a $1 gold coin for their efforts.
