James Guerrier might be only a junior at Willowbrook, but he’s going to spend some time at college this summer.
Guerrier has been accepted into the Business Leadership Academy at Mercy College in New York, where he will learn from business leaders, participate in teambuilding activities and network with young business professionals. The academy will take place from June 15 to 20.
“I thought it would be a good experience and a great way to build my résumé for college,” Guerrier said of why he applied for the academy. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people and further developing my leadership skills.”
To be accepted, Guerrier had to submit an application video. He said he hopes attending the program will inspire other students to take advantage of similar opportunities, and he thanks Willowbrook Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department Chair Mary Barney for her support and encouragement to apply to the academy. Guerrier plans to pursue a career in business management.
Barney said the Lauren Kiefer Memorial Foundation; the Willowbrook Football Team; the Willowbrook Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Team; and Willowbrook Assistant Principal Tom Cantlin helped raise funds for Guerrier’s trip.
