Willowbrook freshman Peter Alessandri Jr. recently earned Eagle Scout status, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America.
Those who earn that rank earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership, which includes organizing, planning and completing an extensive service project in the community.
Alessandri has been with Troop 234 since he was in first grade and has earned more than 37 merit badges. For his Eagle Scout project, Alessandri built a reflector trail with information markers at Girl Scouts Camp Greene Wood in Woodridge.
“I chose that project so campers would have an activity to do at night and have the ability to learn about the animals and the campgrounds from the information on the markers along the trail,” Alessandri said.
The project consisted of outlining a detailed plan, fundraising to support the project and managing the installation of the reflector trail. Alessandri raised about $600, and a majority of the materials were donated from local stores.
“The project took about 386 hours to complete,” Alessandri said. “I am especially grateful for my Eagle Scout Coach, Dan Olson, for his support throughout this project. I also am thankful for the help and support from my friends and family for coming out to help dig 40 holes for the posts. I couldn’t have completed this project without them!”
Alessandri plans to continue with Boy Scouts to earn more merit badges and assist other Scouts.
