Willowbrook alumna Genevieve Corkery (class of 2018) recently made her Equity debut at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire with the world premiere of "Always Something There…," a new musical by Chicago-raised playwright Sandy Rustin. The 1980s-inspired jukebox musical ran from June 18 to Aug. 10.
The production has since been released for licensing through Music Theatre International (MTI). Corkery is featured in promotional photos and a video for the production on MTI’s website at www.mtishows.com/always-something-there.
Corkery continues to pursue opportunities both onstage and behind the scenes. She recently directed a Chicago production of Oscar Wilde’s "The Importance of Being Earnest," which received positive reviews.
That production also included a connection to Willowbrook, as it used set pieces from a previous Willowbrook show (including library walls and large boxwood bushes). And the experience was a family affair for Corkery, as her mother, Sara, was involved with the production; her brother, Jack (Willowbrook alumnus, class of 2016), performed in the show; and her father, Edward, contributed painted portraits.
Through her work as a performer and a director, Corkery continues to build her career in the Chicago theatre community. District 88 is proud to recognize the accomplishments of its alumni and celebrate the many ways they continue to pursue their passions and make an impact in their communities.
