District 88 was excited to join the Villa Park community for the inaugural Villa Fest on Aug. 22, a new community celebration that featured live music, entertainment, food and more.

One of the afternoon’s musical highlights showcased Willowbrook senior Shea Downer, who served as lead vocalist with her father’s band, Rhythm Rockets. Downer sang her great-grandmother’s original composition alongside the band, making for a special performance that demonstrated her talent and connection to her family’s musical roots.

District 88 also joined in the festivities with Willowbrook Principal Dr. Daniel Krause and School Resource Officer Ernesto “Ernie” Perez taking part in the event’s dunk tank. Their participation provided plenty of fun for attendees, while giving students, staff and residents an opportunity to connect outside of the school setting.

Villa Fest was a wonderful way for District 88 to celebrate student talent, support the community and be part of a new local tradition. District 88 looks forward to continuing to participate in events that bring schools, students and families together.
