Willowbrook School Resource Officer presents to assist students with public speaking skills

On Aug. 25, Willowbrook School Resource Officer (SRO) Ernesto “Ernie” Perez (pictured above) spoke with students who are enrolled in the school’s Public Speaking & Communication Technology Dual-Credit course (taught by English teacher Christine Calandra and CTE Department Head Mary Barney).

As part of that class, students present four speeches that focus on the following genres:

1. Me, Myself, and I
2. Informative
3. Career
4. Persuasive

To provide them with an example of each type of public speaking, Barney and Calandra have invited staff members to present.

Through his "Me, Myself, and I" speech, Perez was able to serve as a model for the pupils by encouraging them to practice and enhance their public speaking skills. It also allowed him to connect with students in a different format, venue and role.
