Willowbrook student focuses on supporting mental health as part of English capstone project

Willowbrook student Alyssa Wiemerslage (class of 2026, pictured above) recently researched Elyssa’s Mission SOS Signs of Suicide program as part of English teacher Terri Woebel’s English 12 Dual Credit Senior Capstone Project.

That program educates students on how to identify signs of depression and suicide in themselves and their peers, while training school professionals, parents and community members to recognize at-risk youths and take appropriate action.

With the support of Woebel and Willowbrook counselor Kimberly Mikesell, Wiemerslage wrote and delivered announcements for Mental Health Awareness Week to assist Willowbrook students. Wiemerslage also set up a table during lunch hours for students to design and create mental health motivational cards (pictured above), which she then arranged to have shared at local therapy offices.
