On April 13, more than 20 Willowbrook students had an opportunity to explore careers in law enforcement and forensics during a visit to the DuPage County Coroner’s Office and the DuPage County Correctional Facility.
The experience was coordinated by District 88 Director of Student Career Development Iridia Nevarez and the Willowbrook Counseling Department, in partnership with Eduardo Castillo, Lieutenant at the DuPage County Sheriff's Office (who is a 2004 graduate of Willowbrook and an Addison Trail parent). The trip gave students who are interested in these fields a firsthand look at these career paths.
One key takeaway that was shared with attendees is there is a significant shortage of forensic pathologists and law enforcement officers throughout the U.S., highlighting a strong need for future professionals in these areas. Participants also learned about the many rewarding aspects of these fields, including the opportunity to serve the community, seek justice and play a critical role in investigations.
District 88 is committed to providing multiple and flexible pathways for students to ensure they are college and career ready and continues to partner with colleges/universities and local businesses to expand these experiences.
