Willowbrook and District 88 are committed to helping students build positive futures and post-secondary success.
As part of that focus, Willowbrook hosted a College and Career Week from March 23 to 26. Highlights included:
Monday, March 23:
Event: On March 23, 15 Willowbrook students participated in a career-exploration experience hosted by DuPage County Area Project (DuCAP), the Villa Park Chamber of Commerce and District 88 Director of Student Career Development Iridia Nevarez. During the event, called “Pizza with a Professional,” students have the opportunity to learn directly from industry experts through inspiring lunchtime sessions that connect classroom learning to real-world careers. They are able to ask questions and speak with someone who is in the job area they have indicated an interest in pursuing.
During the March gathering, the featured speakers were Kara Fairhurst (Owner/Operator) and Angela Ward (Client Success Manager) with Senior Helpers. Spirit week theme: Students and staff wore neon and/or sunglasses for the theme of “Your Future is Bright!”
Tuesday, March 24:
Event: On March 24, representatives from 38 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. attended a College Fair to speak with students. Pupils were able to ask questions directly, and they received information about their various post-high school options. Spirit week theme: Students and staff wore T-shirts representing their favorite colleges/universities for the theme of “College Pride!”
Wednesday, March 25:
Event: On March 25, students had the opportunity to attend a Career Pathways Fair to learn about more than 30 career options, including the trades, military and College of DuPage skilled career programs. Spirit week theme: Students and staff wore business casual/formal outfits for the theme of “Dress for Success!”
Thursday, March 26:
Event: On March 26, students had the opportunity to participate in Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) testing. This is a multiple-aptitude test used to determine eligibility for military service and to help match individuals with suitable military jobs, based on their strengths and interests. Twenty Willowbrook students signed up to participate.
Spirit week theme: Students and staff dressed in red, white and blue for the theme of “Celebrate our Armed Forces!”
