Willowbrook hosts first Cultural Night

On April 29, Willowbrook hosted its first Cultural Night, to celebrate the school’s rich diversity.

During the event, Willowbrook students, staff and families came together to enjoy traditional dishes; performances by the school’s Rock Band, Mariachi Band, Ritmo Latino Latin Dance group and K-Pop Club; and more. The evening was coordinated by several Willowbrook staff members and the school's Italian Club, MSA, SASA, ASIA, HOLA, Multicultural Club and K-Pop Club.

District 88 is proud to have a diverse learning community – more than 50 languages are represented among its families, and almost half of the nearly 4,000 students at District 88 speak a language other than English at home. District 88’s core values include ensuring all students, staff and community members feel safe, valued, respected and welcome. And the Cultural Night is one event to help accomplish that goal.

“Cultural Night was a powerful reminder of the beauty in our differences and the strength in our unity,” said Willowbrook staff member Rachel Karos, who helped organize the event. “We are already looking ahead to next year, inspired to grow this tradition even further.”
