On Feb. 24, eight Willowbrook students participated in a focus group activity and cooking competition with chefs and management from the school’s food-service provider, OrganicLife.

The students provided feedback on OrganicLife’s menu, including what they like, what could be improved and a wish list of new menu items. They also received a pizza dough and recipe lesson and made individual pizzas from scratch with a variety of toppings. The goal of the contest was to inspire students’ culinary skills, passion and creativity.

Representatives from OrganicLife, District 88 and Willowbrook judged the entries on taste, presentation, creativity and overall acceptability.

The winner was sophomore Sara Gomez Barragan with her Colombi-Pizza, which was named after her Colombian heritage. As the champion, her pizza will be featured twice on the menu in March at the Willowbrook and Addison Trail cafeterias.
