Two Willowbrook students participate in live, state-level art competition

On Oct. 24, Willowbrook juniors Josephine Parkinson (pictured above, left) and Norah (North) Luedtke (pictured above, right) participated in ArtConnectED’s Art Throwdown.

According to www.artconnected.org, this is “a live, fast-paced, head-to-head, interscholastic Visual Arts competition … Students put their artistic skills to the test, competing against other Illinois high school students, while the audience gets to witness the creative process first hand as they root for their favorites. Each challenge involves a 90-minute, hands-on and creative problem to be solved.”

The creative prompt for the Oct. 24 competition was to design a book cover with the title “Shadows,” based on the German collection of modern retelling of Grimms' Fairy Tales. Parkinson and Luedtke are pictured above with their submitted illustrations (digital art and traditional ink, respectively).

Parkinson and Luedtke competed against more than 50 artists, and more than 2,500 votes were cast to select the winning entries. Parkinson’s piece earned 2nd place in the Art Throwdown.
