According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which evolved from the first Day of Unity observed in October 1981 by the coalition. The Day of Unity is celebrated the first Monday in October, and support is shown by wearing purple.
On Oct. 7, Willowbrook students and staff wore purple during a “Purple Out” in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Students from INTERACT Club and the Young Men and Ladies groups created and wore purple ribbons and buttons, which they handed out during lunch periods. Tri-folds were displayed in the cafeteria for students to learn more about domestic violence.
