Addison Trail students connect to career pathway through Principles of Biomedical Science Project Lead The Way (PLTW) course

District 88 continues to grow college and career pathway opportunities for students and is focused on meeting the needs of all District 88 students through providing multiple and flexible pathways for each child to find post-high school success. The district continues to work with colleges, universities and local businesses to enhance these options, and those collaborations are critical to assist with the labor shortage and to connect students to hands-on, immersive experiences, as well as certifications, credentials and scholarships. For more information, go to www.dupage88.net/Pathways.

One of those pathways is Principles of Biomedical Science Project Lead The Way (PLTW), where students investigate the human body systems and various health conditions through hands-on projects. The activities introduce students to human physiology, medicine, research processes and bioinformatics.

Addison Trail students in teacher Laura Garcia’s Principles of Biomedical Science Project Lead The Way (PLTW) classes are learning practical skills to gain knowledge about clinical care health and medical professional careers. They are studying how to take vital signs such as temperature, heart rate, respiration rate and oxygen saturation. Addison Trail nurses Gabrielle Sinagra and Marie Portera visited the classes to share their experiences in the profession and to show students how to take blood pressure. Later this semester, pupils will learn about infectious diseases and trauma/emergency care.
