Willowbrook Black Organization for Student Success (BOSS) students participate in DuPage County Branch of the NAACP

On April 30, 18 students who are members of the Willowbrook Black Organization for Student Success (BOSS) attended the DuPage County Branch of the NAACP’s 65th annual Sydney Finley Scholarship and Freedom Fund Gala.

During the event, students heard presentations from keynote speaker Susana Mendoza, Illinois Comptroller, and guest speaker Ruby Shuttlesworth Bester, daughter of civil rights icon Fred Shuttlesworth.

According to http://dupagecountynaacp.org, “The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.”

Thirty Willowbrook students who are members of BOSS are involved with the DuPage County Branch of the NAACP through an annual membership, which allows them to apply for scholarships and participate in the planning of youth community events.
