Addison Trail hosts program for Spanish-speaking parents: Dr. Ferney Ramírez presents about importance of removing stigma surrounding mental health

On Feb. 21, Dr. Ferney Ramírez (a respected psychologist and coordinator of bilingual parent-education programs) presented in Spanish to more than 130 Addison Trail parents/guardians, who are members of the school’s Padres Latinos en Acción group.

Through that group, Spanish-speaking parents/guardians increase their knowledge of the school system to help their children achieve at the highest level. Meeting topics include information on accessing college, financial aid, rigorous academic programming, social-emotional concerns and community issues.

Dr. Ramírez (pictured standing at the podium, in a yellow long-sleeve shirt) presented “Estoy confundido: No sé qué quiero ni qué siento” (“I’m confused: I don’t know what I want, nor what I feel”), which focused on the importance of removing the stigma surrounding mental health. Participants also were provided with resources regarding the mental health and social-emotional supports available at Addison Trail (www.dupage88.net/Supports), as well as copies of Dr. Ramírez’s books.
