Counseling Corner: Willowbrook Counseling Department offers College and Career Jumpstart Prep Week

Spring is a great time for students to begin planning for next steps after high school. Whether it’s creating a college list, visiting colleges, developing a résumé, or completing career-exploration assessments, students are encouraged to begin their journey. The Willowbrook Counseling Department also will offer a variety of workshops that are grade-level appropriate.

  • Tuesday, April 19: Essay Workshop- Students will have the opportunity to review essay prompts and learn what admission representatives look for in an essay.

  • Wednesday, April 20: Résumé Workshop- Students will learn what to include on their résumé that will be used for college applications and when asking for letters of recommendation. They will have an opportunity to begin creating their résumé in Naviance during the workshop.

  • Thursday, April 21: Naviance Workshop- Students will learn how to create a college list in Naviance of prospective colleges of interest.

All students can participate in the following activities:

  • College visits: Spring is a great time to visit colleges for the first time, or for seniors to solidify their college choice. They can ask to sit in on a class, meet with a financial aid representative, visit a dorm room and much more to learn whether the school is the best fit.

  • Career assessments: Sophomores, juniors and seniors have learned how to complete career assessments in Naviance. The purpose of completing these assessments is to assist students with linking careers to areas of interest, as well as skill. Students can research job outlook, educational requirements, similar careers and much more.

  • Get involved/stay involved: There are a ton of spring sports in full swing, and students can still join. See details at https://www.dupage88.net/site/page/158. Willowbrook also has a lot of club and activity offerings that students can still join! See a list at https://dupage88.libguides.com/WBClubsandActivities. If a student needs help finding an activity, they can contact Willowbrook teacher Rachel Karos at rkaros@dupage88.net, and she will help find the right activity for each student.
