Willowbrook Theatre invites everyone to enjoy the nostalgia of childhood and join the “Peanuts” gang as the school presents its fall musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” by Clark Gesner, on Nov. 11, 12 and 14.
The show follows an average day in the life of Charlie Brown, as he interacts with the other “Peanuts” characters created by Charles M. Schulz. Charlie wonders what his friends think about him and decides to find out how to become a good person. Throughout the musical, the characters share their observations of Charlie, and the relationships among the group are explored. Each person lists the things that, for him or her, constitute happiness, and Charlie realizes to be a good person, it is necessary to do the right things for other people.
“What is so wonderful about this musical is it brings to life the characters and cartoons we all knew and loved as children,” said Regina Wathier, Willowbrook Theatre Director. “It pulls some very classic storylines that are universal in their appeal, as they are archetypal experiences for everyone.”
Wathier added the show is family friendly and will feature many new faces.
“The students are excited to be back on stage, and we’re happy to have them there,” Wathier said. “I hope audience members feel the warmth and humanity that is inherent in Charlie Brown and the 'Peanuts' crew.”
During the performances, the lobby will be decorated with designs created by students in Wathier’s Introduction to Theatre Arts and Acting classes.
Willowbrook senior Nathaniel Falco and freshman Gillian Falco are brother and sister and play Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty. They said they’re grateful for the opportunity to act again.
“It’s amazing to once again share the feeling of joy you get from being in the theatre,” they said. “That experience has been missing, and we’re thrilled to bring it back. We hope the audience leaves with a smile and feeling inspired by Charlie Brown. No matter how many times he stumbles, he keeps hope – and we could all use that resolve as we deal with the challenges of the (COVID-19) pandemic.”
