Willowbrook hosts State send-off celebration for IHSA Contest Play, ‘Antigone Now’
On March 25, Willowbrook hosted a State send-off celebration for the students who participated in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Drama & Group Interpretation State Competition. That event took place on March 26 and 27 and was hosted virtually because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Willowbrook’s Contest Play is “Antigone Now” by Melissa Cooper. According to https://www.playscripts.com/play/1507, “In the midst of a bombed-out city still feeling the aftershocks of war, the rebellious and intense Antigone defies her uncle to bury her disgraced brother. This contemporary response to the myth of Antigone brings powerful, modern prose to an ancient and universal story.”
The production qualified for State after placing second at Sectionals. Senior Sean Shepherd (who plays Creon), sophomore Amelia Tortorici (who plays Ismene) and junior Imani Ward (who plays Antigone) also received All-Sectional Cast honors.
