Addison Trail senior earns Eagle Scout status

On Oct. 20, Addison Trail senior Konrad Nowak (pictured above) earned Eagle Scout status, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America.

Those who receive that rank earn a total of 21 merit badges; demonstrate Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily life; and plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project. Read more about the Eagle Scout process at https://tinyurl.com/EagleScoutInfo.

Nowak is with Troop 410, and he joined Boy Scouts in 2016. Nowak said he signed up after a friend invited him to attend a Boy Scouts pancake breakfast fundraising event, where he saw and heard about the various opportunities in which he could participate as a member of the troop.

For his Eagle Scout project, Nowak assembled 15 opossum catch-and-release boxes for the Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Nowak said the project took about three months to complete and involved contacting the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County; gathering the materials, tools and equipment needed to build the boxes; scheduling and planning the work days to assemble the boxes; filling out the required paperwork; and delivering the boxes to the Willowbrook Wildlife Center.

Nowak said he hopes to stay involved with Boy Scouts by becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster to help the next generation of scouts have great experiences through the program. He plans to attend college and earn a degree in aviation flight technology or fire science.
