By Rachel Karos, Willowbrook physical education teacher
Willowbrook students are working hard every day to become more educated with their health and wellness, and we are thrilled to showcase those accomplishments through this monthly column.
In this edition, we are proud to highlight our ACHIEVE Physical Education (PE) class, which is comprised of students who are enrolled in our ACHIEVE Directional program and our BRC program. Through this PE class, we’re able to provide students with choice in their daily activities. Prior to switching to Remote Learning, which was implemented on April 6 because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, students had the opportunity to choose in which activity they wanted to participate. They almost ALWAYS choose basketball, which is typically competitive and works up a sweat.
Since we began with Remote Learning, students have still been keeping up with daily workouts. These exercises are quick and can be adjusted to increase intensity. The best part is they require zero equipment and can be done at home.
Workouts are from DAREBEE and can be found online at https://darebee.com. To view an example of a week’s worth of workouts, go to https://www.dupage88.net/site/public/files/?item=5080.

As we all stay at home and quarantine to help ensure our well-being, we need to stay physically active now more than ever. By providing students with quick, intense and fun workouts, we can help them stay moving and engaged. We invite everyone to join in and try these exercises.
Stay home, and stay healthy.
