As the 2017-18 school year comes to a close, it can be challenging to ensure students continue working toward college and career readiness during summer break. The summer before senior year is particularly important to prepare for the year ahead and life after high school.

The Addison Trail Guidance Department offers the tips below to help members of the class of 2019 be successful in their post-secondary education plans.

  • Register to take or retake the ACT and/or the SAT, if needed.
  • Develop your list of schools to which you would like to apply/visit. Use the following website to help you search: bigfuture.collegeboard.org/ college-search.
  • Attend college fairs and visit colleges and universities.
  • Work on your personal statement, common application essays and e-portfolio.
  • Stop in the Guidance Office for help or to ask any questions.

Summer:

  • Take advantage of volunteer and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Continue to visit colleges and universities.
  • Continue to work on your personal statement, common application essays and e-portfolio.
  • Communicate with your parents/guardians about YOUR plan.

Fall:
