On March 22, 16 members of the Addison Trail Boys Track and Field Team volunteered at Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva.

During the outing, the student-athletes packaged 2,725 meals (3,200 pounds of food) in about two hours. James Ziebka, Addison Trail Reading Specialist and Head Coach of the Boys Track and Field Team, said this was the first time the group helped at the food bank, and the plan is to make the trip a semiannual service project.

“I want our student-athletes to learn how to be members of a global society,” Ziebka said. “By providing opportunities like this, we are providing them with numerous learning experiences beyond the classroom. Through volunteerism, the team is able to bond together, create memories and, I hope, become stewards of active citizenship in the years ahead.”
