Addison Trail hosts Poetry Slam

On Dec. 7, Addison Trail hosted its annual Poetry Slam.

Students who participated shared their original works in the first two rounds of competition and then competed in a lightning round, where they had five minutes to write a poem based on a provided topic.

English teacher and Writing Center aide Claire Shoup and Writing Center aide Leslie Akacich served as judges for the event.

Winners of the Poetry Slam are listed below. The top three finishers received gift certificates to local restaurants, and the champion was given a trophy as well.

1st place: Junior Isea Cabrera

2nd place: Senior Thannia Arteaga

3rd place: Freshman Isabel Aramburu

4th place: Freshman Julian Hernandez

5th place: Sophomore Britney Galeana
