On Dec. 8, Addison Trail alumna Genesis Garcia (class of 2014) spoke with Addison Trail students about her journey to becoming a college student and her experiences at Northwestern University.

Garcia discussed her challenges and successes with being the first person in her family to attend college and highlighted what Northwestern has to offer. She also shared that she has traveled to seven countries so far through opportunities provided by Northwestern. Garcia met with various student groups, including Addison Trail’s Blazer Edge program, which is available by invitation to pupils who meet certain criteria such as being the first in their family to attend college. Through that program, students hear guest speakers, attend college visits, receive assistance with college applications/requesting financial aid and more. The goal is to encourage them to explore four-year post-secondary institutions.
