Addison Trail senior Nicci Scorza has been recognized as a School Winner by the Wendy’s High School Heisman.
According to a press release from Wendy’s High School Heisman, School Winners “… set the bar. They work harder, show more passion and lead by example – in the classroom, on the field and within the community.” To be eligible for this award, applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above, be proven leaders and role models within their school and community and participate in an eligible sport (see details at www.WendysHeisman.com).
As a School Winner, Scorza received a certificate and a Wendy’s High School Heisman Patch. She was nominated by Addison Trail Physical Education and Health Department Chair Rob Schader for her leadership and involvement and the positive attitude/qualities she exemplifies. Scorza is a member of the Girls Basketball Team, the Girls Volleyball Team and the Softball Team. She also is Co-President of Addison Trail’s Lettermen Club, Publicist for Student Council and serves as a Blazer Ambassador to help freshmen transition to high school.
The Wendy's High School Heisman was created by Wendy's founder Dave Thomas in 1994. Thomas dropped out of high school when he was 15 years old to work full time and went on to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history. While this nontraditional path led to his prosperity, it always worried Thomas that others would follow in his footsteps and expect to achieve similar fame and wealth by not finishing high school or attending college.
Faced with that dilemma, Thomas enrolled at Coconut Creek High School in Florida at 61 years old and received his GED. Inspired by this moment and with a desire to celebrate the outstanding achievements of youth in America, he launched the Wendy's High School Heisman program.
More than 20 years later, Wendy's High School Heisman has honored more than 600,000 of the nation's most esteemed high school seniors, who share Wendy's values of giving back to their communities, treating people with respect, continuing education and excelling on the athletic field. The Wendy's High School Heisman is a joint program between Wendy's and the Heisman Trophy Trust, host and custodians of the Heisman Memorial Trophy®.
