Addison Trail remembers alumnus who served as an officer with the Bloomingdale Police Department

It is with great sadness District 88 shares the news that Addison Trail alumnus Raymond Murrell (class of 2007) has passed away.

Murrell was a police officer with the Bloomingdale Police Department and died from injuries he sustained from a car accident while on duty on Jan. 19. According to an NBC 5 Chicago article, Bloomingdale Police Chief Frank Giammarese said Murrell was a young officer with less than a year on the job, but he made a big impact in his tragically short career in the force.

“It is always difficult when we lose a member of our Addison Trail family,” said Addison Trail Principal Michael Bolden. “Our hearts and thoughts are with Murrell’s family and friends, and he will always be a Blazer.”

Addison Trail Counselor Tina Gatses said she’ll always remember Murrell’s smile, caring nature and kind personality.

“I vividly remember Raymond sitting in my office talking about life,” Gatses said. “He was quiet, but he had a strong presence. You just knew he cared about everyone and everything he did. I will never forget that sweet smile.”
