Counseling Corner: Addison Trail Guidance Department shares summer hours, tips to prepare for the 2016-17 school year

Throughout the summer, Addison Trail counselors will be available to meet with students and parents/guardians regarding a number of topics, including college, career and four-year planning and 2016-17 class schedules.

The Guidance Department also offers the following tips to help students prepare for the 2016-17 school year.

  • Students who are enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level course should be sure to get their summer work. The Guidance Department will have extra copies of any work students have not received. Don’t wait until the end of summer to complete those assignments.
  • Students who received an incomplete grade and need to make up a final exam should contact the Guidance Department to schedule a time to complete the exam.
  • For members of the class of 2017, build your wish list of colleges. Visit the websites of those colleges to see when the application process will begin. If you have a chance, visit a college during your summer vacation, whether it is in Illinois or in another state.
  • For members of the class of 2017, update your résumé and find sample essay questions for colleges to help you get ready for the real essay questions on your college applications.

Summer is an opportunity to rest and relax. But take some time to pick up a book of your leisure and read to help you stay in tune with your studies.
