On March 18, Addison Trail hosted its annual Superstars Assembly, where classes go head to head in a variety of competitions, including a dodgeball tournament, a basketball-shooting contest, a push-up contest, a scooter race and an obstacle course. That assembly takes place as part of Physical Education (PE) Week and is the culminating event.
This year, the 42-year-old tradition raised about $350 for the American Heart Association through a penny war and other activities. Points were awarded to each class based on the place they earned in those competitions.
When all was said and done, the senior class and the faculty team earned the most points and tied for 1st place. The junior class finished in 3rd place, the sophomore class finished 4th and the freshmen class finished 5th.
“The kids love this assembly and really look forward to it each year,” said Rob Schader, Addison Trail Physical Education and Health Department Chair. “The students and staff show incredible school spirit during the week.”
Addison Trail also hosted a Wellness Day on March 14 to begin PE Week, where more than 30 organizations had booths with information about a variety of topics related to health and wellness. Students were able to gain tips to improve their well-being, ask questions of the representatives and participate in interactive displays.
