Addison Trail winter sports wrap-up

The Addison Trail winter athletic season is quickly coming to an end. Our student-athletes did a tremendous job representing us in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division and beyond and continued the Blazer Pride of Addison Trail.

BOYS BASKETBALL
The Varsity Boys Basketball Team finished the year at 14-15 and 4-8 in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division. This was the third straight year in which the team reached double digits in victories. The boys captured the Elmwood Park Thanksgiving Tournament title, and the biggest accomplishment was when the Blazers defeated Proviso East on the road for the first time in school history. All seven seniors were named to the Academic All-Conference Team, and senior Eric Grygo was named to the All-Conference Team.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
The team had a good year, finishing 10-18 overall. The team members beat Willowbrook for the first time in four years. They also won a playoff game against Hoffman Estates – it was the first time in more than five years they won a playoff game. Senior Maria Koulogeorgas was named as an All-Conference player, and she averaged nine points a game. All five seniors made the All-Academic/All-Conference teams.

GIRLS BOWLING
With 34 girls who are new to bowling, the team had a very successful season. The varsity and junior varsity teams finished the season with an overall record of 0-9. The girls Conference record was 0-8. They finished in 5th place at the Regional tournament. Regionals resulted in three individual Sectional qualifiers – senior Anaitza Roman, senior Dinorah Cantu and junior Molly Schmelter.

CHEERLEADING
The Coed Varsity Team finished in the top 5 at all invites, winning four of the six invites. During the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association (ICCA) Championships, the team won 1st place, earning the title of ICCA Coed Champions. Team members also competed in the Coed Stunt Group division for the first time and earned 1st place in that division as well. Senior Nicole Infantino was named as an ICCA 2016 Scholarship Winner.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS
At the first meet of the season, the Girls Gymnastics Team scored 117.6. By the end of the season, the team scored 130.0. Team Captains junior Kennedy O’Neill and junior Terra Garcia made it to Sectionals, and O’Neill moved on to State for the All-Around competition. O’Neill also was All-Conference in all four events, including All-Around.

ADDISON TRAIL/WILLOWBROOK BOYS SWIMMING
This young team made great strides this year. The team finished with a Conference dual-meet record of 2-3 and came in 3rd place at the West Suburban Conference Gold Division Meet. The boys were led by All-Conference swimmers senior Ethan Wallace, freshman John Burns, sophomore Michael Strycharz, sophomore Jacob Grygo and freshman Evan Zimmerman. Academic All-Conference members are Wallace, senior Calvin Milas and senior Eugene Ciesla.

WRESTLING
The Varsity Wrestling Team ended its season with a record of 11-12. The team was very young, with only two seniors on the starting varsity lineup. Senior Karim Fuentes was a Sectional qualifier, with 35 wins and 22 pins. The team had three All-Conference athletes – freshman Guillermo Juarez, junior Andre Frontier and Fuentes – and two All-Academic athletes – senior Ivan Padilla and senior Frederick Nosal.

Go, Blazers!
