Proceeds from Addison Trail’s 2nd annual Latino food festival to benefit students

On Nov. 7, the halls of Addison Trail were transformed into a carnival – filled with vibrant decorations, the sounds of traditional Latino music and the inviting aroma of traditional Latino dishes.

The event was the school’s second annual “Kermes” (a Latino food festival), which was hosted by the Addison Trail Interact Club and Padres Latinos en Acción group. Nearly 400 people attended the festival, which raised about $1,800 for student scholarships. Along with the food, the event featured a disc jockey, a silent auction, face painting, pumpkin painting and more. Among those in attendance was Village of Addison Mayor Rich Veenstra and his wife, Mary Ann.

“We truly appreciate the community’s support of this event, and we look forward to seeing it grow each year,” said Jorge de Leon, Addison Trail social worker and Interact Club co-sponsor. “Kermes is a wonderful celebration of the Latino culture, and we’re thrilled to offer an evening of fun, food and friendship.”
