Addison Trail hosts inaugural Cardboard Regatta

On May 28, more than 100 students in Addison Trail’s Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level Physics 1 classes participated in the school’s inaugural Cardboard Regatta at the Addison Park District Family Aquatic Center.

Students had to make a boat that would float and hold at least one student for a minimum of five seconds as they made their way to the other side of the pool. The goal was for participants to apply the concepts of density and buoyancy, using creativity and engineering knowledge. They also had to demonstrate teamwork in the collaborative effort of constructing and propelling a boat made out of cardboard and duct tape across the pool.
