Counseling Corner: Addison Trail Guidance Department assists students with career/vocational awareness and planning

As part of the Addison Trail Guidance Department's goal to prepare students for post-high school success, counselors provide career programming for students.

That programming includes:

  • A two-day Career Program for all sophomores during the first two weeks of November: Students will meet with their counselor to work on the career-development exploration process using the Naviance program. Students will complete three different surveys and interest inventories that will be linked to careers, skills and educational requirements, etc. Students will use those results to further explore their aptitudes and interests as they relate to their education and future.
  • College of DuPage (COD) career-exploration field trip opportunities: Students will have the opportunity to attend field trips at COD to increase their exposure to various careers. On Oct. 24, 30 Addison Trail students attended the COD Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism Career Exploration Day. Each student had the opportunity to make his or her own pizza and taffy apples and gained valuable information about the industry. Students will have the opportunity to explore other careers and programs at COD during future field trips that include the Manufacturing and Engineering Technology Career Exploration Day on Nov. 14, the Criminal Justice and Fire Science Career Exploration Day on Jan. 30, 2015, the Technical Education Career Exploration Day on March 20, 2015, and the Health Sciences Career Exploration Day on May 1, 2015.
  • Career Week at Addison Trail: During the week of March 23, 2015, the Guidance Department will offer a variety of field trips to explore different careers. The department also will host several guest speakers, who will discuss their careers and the education requirements for those careers.
  • College and Career Center: All students have access to the College and Career Center in the Guidance Office. The center has many computers and a wealth of information students can use to continue the process of exploring their future.
