On Oct. 7, more than 200 Addison Trail students participated in a mock election at the school.
All students were invited to participate in the mock election, which was hosted by the League of Women Voters. Addison Trail U.S. Government classes decorated the commons in a patriotic theme for the event and assisted with the voting. The ballot students completed reflected the look of an actual ballot and included the names of candidates who are running in the Nov. 4 election.
“It is important to have students take part in a mock election, so they know how easy it is to participate in our democratic system,” said LeVonne Cescolini-Boyer, Addison Trail social studies teacher. “At the same time, students will be faced with having to make a decision between two people they probably do not know, and we hope they will learn they need to be more informed about our government to make the right decisions in the polling booth.”
