Addison Trail Guidance Counselor Shane Cole has been selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
Cole was nominated by senior Ekaterin Gjonaj for his outstanding dedication and commitment to Addison Trail. Gjonaj is a student member of NSHSS and had the opportunity to nominate an educator who made a significant contribution to her academic career. The Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award recognizes role models who have made a lasting difference in the lives of students by encouraging them to strive for excellence.
“He’s a phenomenal counselor,” Gjonaj said of Cole. “He’s always there for everyone and pushes you to reach your full potential.”
She added Cole was critical in helping her earn an appointment into the United States Military Academy West Point.
“It’s a very long application process to get accepted into West Point, and Cole was incredibly supportive and guided me the whole way,” Gjonaj said. “It was an honor to nominate him for this award. I’m very proud to come from Addison Trail, and this is my small way of saying thank you for helping me get to where I am today.”
Cole said he’s honored Gjonaj took the time to nominate him, and he’s humbled to receive this recognition.
“It’s always a great feeling when a student says thank you,” Cole said.
And Gjonaj will never forget everything Cole has done for her.
“He’s not just a good counselor – he’s a good person,” she said.
