Addison Trail raises money for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of student

On May 5, Addison Trail students and staff members walked the track in the school’s field house for a cause.

During all physical education classes, students walked to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. According to the foundation’s website, www.cff.org, “Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. (70,000 worldwide) have CF.”

The event was coordinated by Addison Trail physical education teacher Sheri D’Ambrose. At the center of the event was Addison Trail senior Anthony Corona, who was diagnosed with CF at birth. Corona smiled from ear to ear as he joined his classmates on the track.

“It feels really great,” he said of Addison Trail showing him their support. “I’m really honored my friends and teachers are doing this.”

The event raised more than $1,300 for the foundation, and Corona plans to walk again on May 17 at Busse Woods in Schaumburg (Grove No. 5 off of Higgins Road) to raise more money. His group is called “Anthony’s Army.” There also will be a reception starting at 5 p.m. at Blue Line Grill, 475 S. Grace St. in Addison. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. Prizes will be raffled off, and proceeds will go to the foundation. To reserve your spot, contact Anthony's father, Dominick, at 630-863-0863 or domc3@sbcglobal.net

“We’re overwhelmed with the support they’ve given us,” Anthony’s mom, Carrie, said of Addison Trail. “It’s truly amazing. You ask for a little, and they give so much.”
