During the week of Dec. 9 through 13, the Addison Trail Guidance Department will host Career Week.
The counselors know it is important to highlight a week where the focus is on learning about potential occupations. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a number of field trips, where they can gain firsthand experience about various careers. The first field trip took place on Dec. 2, when students traveled to McDonald’s corporate offices in Oak Brook and learned the ins and outs of the McDonald’s business. On Dec. 9, students will have an opportunity to visit Glen Oaks Hospital to learn about health care careers. On Dec. 10, there will be a trip to Universal Technical Institute to learn about automotives and to Environmental Technical Institute to learn about Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC). On Dec. 11, there will be a field trip to Pivot Point and Paul Mitchell to focus on cosmetology. On Dec. 12, students will visit the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to learn about criminal justice. And on Dec. 13, students will head to the Illinois Center for Broadcasting to learn about broadcasting and the production of radio. Students will even have the chance to try their hand at television broadcasting.
There also will be activities at the school during the week. More than 150 senior students will participate in Mock Interviews, where they will be interviewed by community volunteers in a formal matter and then given feedback on their interview at the end. There also will be three career presentations throughout the week. A representative from Chamberlain College will talk to students about nursing, Illinois Institute of Technology will have a presentation called “Technology, Innovation and You” for seniors and a professional in the engineering field will speak with students about that industry.
Along with Career Week, Addison Trail will continue to offer job-shadowing field trips throughout the school year, so students can receive firsthand education about careers.
