Addison Trail Guidance Department assists students in reaching their goals – year by year

Throughout November, Addison Trail guidance counselors meet with freshmen, sophomores and juniors during their physical education class.

During freshmen meetings, counselors show examples of transcripts and explain what a transcript is and its importance. They also discuss credit requirements, GPA and class rank. Freshmen complete a four-year plan, where they learn about graduation requirements and map classes to be taken during the next three years. They also are introduced to Naviance-Family Connection, a web-based program that helps students explore colleges and careers. That program allows students to create a résumé and interest inventories that will assist them in finding a career they might like. The program also has a parent login. Each freshman parent receives through the mail a personalized password to access the program. Be on the lookout for that information in the next few weeks. Any parent who needs assistance accessing Naviance-Family Connection should contact Guidance Director Kevin Redding at kredding@dupage88.net or 630-628-3324.

During sophomore meetings, students receive a copy of their transcript and review the information with their counselor. Sophomores also complete a four-year plan for the second time, focusing on their junior and senior years. Lastly, sophomores work in Naviance-Family Connection to research colleges. Students are able to track schools they are interested in by placing them in the “schools I am thinking about” option.

During junior meetings, students receive a copy of their transcript with four semesters of grades. Counselors ensure students are on track with graduation requirements and credits. Juniors also complete a four-year plan to review courses for senior year. Lastly, juniors complete a “Game Plan” survey on Naviance-Family Connection that assists them in making decisions with regard to their post-secondary education plans.
